What Are Nicotine Shots and How Are They Used with Shortfills?

Nicotine shots, often referred to as "nic shots," are 10ml bottles of high-strength, unflavoured nicotine e-liquid, typically available in strengths like 18mg/ml. They are designed to be added to larger nicotine-free e-liquid bottles, known as shortfills, to customise the nicotine strength to suit the vaper’s preference. Shortfills are a cost-effective and convenient solution for those who prefer larger e-liquid volumes, especially since the EU Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) limits pre-mixed e-liquids containing nicotine to a maximum of 10ml per bottle.

How Do Shortfills and Nicotine Shots Work?

Shortfills are larger bottles of e-liquid that are intentionally not filled to the brim, leaving space for the addition of nicotine shots. They are always supplied with zero nicotine. Common sizes include:

50ml shortfills

These come in 60ml bottles, leaving 10ml of space for one nic shot. Adding one 18mg nic shot creates a 60ml e-liquid with a nicotine strength of 3mg/ml.

100ml shortfills

These are sold in 120ml bottles, leaving space for two nic shots. Adding two 18mg nic shots results in a total of 120ml e-liquid with a nicotine strength of 3mg/ml.

How to Use Nicotine Shots with Shortfills

Open the shortfill bottle and remove the nozzle or cap.
Add the nicotine shot(s) into the shortfill, using one for 50ml or two for 100ml bottles.
Shake the bottle vigorously for at least one minute to ensure the nicotine blends evenly with the e-liquid.
Allow the mixture to steep if recommended, as this can enhance the flavour.
